I am in Love!!

Last week my beloved Mac Powerbook suffered an irrepairable catastrophe! While trying to close it's screen there was a strange crunching sound and the right hand hinge cracked and severed off...!!! I was initially distraught, we have come through a lot me and my Powerbook. Seven years of dissertations, design, photo editing, interneting, t-shirt preparing, music playing and business starting fun, and now with the screen broken off it seemed appropriate to call time on this era and prepare for the next....

And so I clicked through to the Apple store on my now wobbly and lopsided screen, and my disappointment turned to excitement when my eyes landed upon the beauty of Mac Book Pro. The new love of my life! (sorry mark...) Leopard! Wireless! Back lit keyboard for when it gets dark! Other exciting stuff I haven't had time to look at yet!

Yep I'm a geek. But it is rather lovely, and unlike my Powerbook it doesn't inflict tiny electric shocks (this should have been a warning...), and it's fast, and the battery lasts more that 5 seconds so it doesn't crash when the dodgy power cable finds it's loose connection...In time perhaps, but right now it's really shiny and works a treat.

So apologies for the not too exciting post, but it has been the turning of a new era here at Bonbi towers and I will hopefully now be more productive with my new super fast machine!! Yay and hurrah!!
Nicenice!

Eclectic Eccentricity...

We welcome another new designer to the store: Eclectic Eccentricity!!

When Lucy Averill sent me images of her fun jewellery I jumped at the chance to have some in the Bonbi store.

The pieces are vintage inspired with a quirky and witty twist, there are roaring tigers, aeroplanes, Russian dolls, umbrellas, and more with my favorite being a gorgeous aged brass envelope locket that opens up to reveal a removable brass letter inscribed 'I love you'.
Too lovely! Shop for Eclectic Eccentricity jewels by clicking JUST HERE!!

The Bonbi HQ

I managed to remember to take some pictures of the studio, hurrah!

So this is The Bonbi Forest Indie Emporium HQ, where all the action happens! It's where I make all my tees, make all my jewellery, compute, draw and daydream. It looks quite organised in these images, but it can get quite chaotic at show time, or if I have lots of tees to make and pack and send to stores!
I have 2 whiteboard/cork boards on opposite sides of the studio...One has all kinds of paperwork/ plans/ business related stuff pinned to it (Boring, and not pictured!), and the other has lots of postcards, inspiring images, photos and colour, and names of inspiring artists, quotes etc.
The benches go right back into the lovely big widows, so there is lots of room to spread out and give my plants a share of the light! I love the leafy view too...Well, it is leafy for 1/2 the year anyway, there is just lots of wintertime trees blowing about out there right now!
I got the little birds from the flower market in Amsterdam. I used to have some similar from the pound shop in Brighton which came with crap party hats attached, and they looked stupid so I pulled them off, scalping the birds in the process! The amsterdam birds are much prettier anyway...
So there it is, an insight into Bonbi life for you! I am hoping to post more pics of work in process more often, so there will probably be glimpses of studio chaos along the way...

Oh yes, don't forget to watch the Brit nominations on ITV2 at 9pm tonight...Bat For Lashes are up for 2 awards!!!

New(ad)VENTURE 3

Last night was the opening of NEW(ad)VENTURE 3, a show I have some drawings in at Vitreous gallery in Truro. The gallery was packed, and it was great to catch up with some old faces. It's a good show and if you find yourself in Cornwall anytime up until the 2nd of February pop along and have a look!!

Those are my drawings in the background there:

Where The Wild Things Are...

I have just found out that Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak - one of my favorite picture books - is being made into a film directed by Spike Jonze and written by Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers, both people who's work I admire greatly...Thus far there have only been 2 stills of the film released, but it looks like a fantasy come true!

I found the following quote about the forthcoming film:
Maurice Sendak's classic book comes to the big screen in an adventure tale for every generation. Where the Wild Things Are follows the adventure of Max (Max Records), a mischievous young boy who is sent to his room after rebelling against his mother (Catherine Keener). Max's imagination is free to roam, and it soon transports him to a thriving forest bordering a vast sea. Delighted, he sets sail for the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns and Max rules. In bringing this imaginative fantasy to life, Jonze leads a team of filmmakers incorporating the most dynamic elements of voice performance, live-action puppetry and computer animation. (courtesy of firstshowing.net)

If the stills are anything to go by, it looks amazing, but it won't be released in the US until October 3rd this year. That's AGES away! So goodness knows when we will get it on this side of the pond...I will probably forget all about it and have a very pleasant surprise when it comes out!!

Bonbi treats...

I have finally gotten around to adding my latest jewellery to the store, hurrah! I wasn't going to do it today. Today was meant to be tax return day, but alas editing pictures of sparkling jewels and vintage charms was a far more appealing prospect!! I shall however be kicking myself tomorrow morning when I wake up and smell the inland revenue forms...Ugh.

Anyway, on with the bejewelledness: Here is a few of the many items added to the store today...

See these items and others by clicking HERE!!

Tomorrow I am going to try and remember to take some pictures of the studio! Plus I have to order some tees...there is a Bat For Lashes tee re-stock on yonder horizon...

Happy New Year!!

It's been ages since I've posted AGAIN! I was getting all proud of myself at the beginning of December for posting a couple of times a week, but where the time went I have no idea, and now 2008 has begun and it's been almost a month since I posted!

The cornish Christmas was a fun affair, with lots of family and friends around, and it has taken me a while to wind back up to work mode. Though I managed to do it in the best possible way, and instead of sitting in front of my computer I started by making some drawings! Hurrah!!!

I am taking part in a group show at Vitreous Gallery in Truro called NEW(ad)VENTURES and some of my new drawings will be in it. The Private view is next Saturday 12th January, and if anyone happens to be in Cornwall from then until the 2nd February pop in and have a look, you can find more details and directions at www.vitreous.biz

So a good start so far!

I don't know why but I also forgot to post about the new studio. I moved in around the same time as opening The Bonbi Forest Indie Emporium, and amongst the excitement, totally forgot to take any pictures, or even mention it!! So yes, all the Bonbi paraphernalia has been moved into the new proper HQ, and instead of everything being done between two rather small desk spaces, there is now a drawing and computing area, a printing area, a jewellery area, a shipping and packing area, a sink area, a music area, a books area and light! More light than I could ever have wished for, I love it!! I will post pics over the weekend...
